Yesterday sort of rocked. I saw Wicked with the family, and ate a delicious fancy meal afterward. Wicked was gorgeous. I adored the costumes and sets to DEATH, and the Denver cast was MUCH better than anticipated. They almost had the appropriate range, and they counted and kept time! It almost made up for the horrid performance of Phantom of the Opera where no one could count! AHHH! I was literally tapping my foot to keep time during that one. XD
The Elphaba in this production of Wicked appears to be a graduate of George's school, which was really awesome. She was a good actress. Glinda was good too, but seemed a little too erratic in her bouncing sometimes. XD I left the performance with an "I <3 Oz" shirt because my family got a gift certificate to the performing arts complex last year from my uncle. For a little while, I had trouble handling Elphaba's ambition and drive, because of the recent...goings on...with me, but I think the performance ended up making me feel better, not worse. :D
After a night of fitful sleep, I had my first day at my internship at the DNA diagnostic center on the pediatric floor of the north tower of the tallest finished building in the Fitzsimmons complex (hehe). After a less than stellar start, it exceeded my expectations and proved that opportunities are truly what you make of them. I began the day not really knowing what to expect, and almost missing the shuttle from my mom's medical complex to the Fitzsimmons complex. Luckily, I caught the 8:40 shuttle, and it got me there on time. I was also able to clarify a lot of what I want to get out of this experience, which was good, because they had me FILING before lunch. :( It was for the resident genetic counselor, but still. XD
I think I'm a bit beyond that, despite my lack of lab experience. After all, I've done gels and fruit fly DNA extraction, and I was amazed at the number of tests and disorders I recognized from the research I did in the past couple days. :D When asked about future plans for the internship and projects, I told them I'd rather focus on the lab. This resulted in me spending the rest of the day with the amazingly nice extraction technician learning how to extract pure DNA from blood by hand AND by robot. They call the DNA extraction machine a ROBOT! Eeeeeee! ^_^
I also ate a FABULOUS burrito from the vendor in the lobby of our building for lunch. I am going to have to resist eating one every day for 6 weeks.
My prospects are looking up!
